What does it take to get the Martin Labor Government and the CLP Opposition to recommit to the NT as 'the Gateway to Asia'? Unfortunately many new Territorians are not aware of what was achieved in years past, the Martin Government have made sure of that in their rush to cast us in the image of just another Labor State. One of our contributors last week taped Mark Latham’s interviews on both Radio JJJ with Chris Taylor and Craig Roecassel, and Breakfast with Mike Carlton on 2UE. In typical Latham style, anybody and everybody gets a serve. The allegations are just that, and no inference about people’s conduct should be drawn from them. We publish these edited transcripts as part of the continuing story of The Latham Diaries. They give more of an insight into the mind of the man Labor tried to make Australia’s Prime Minister. Make up your own mind, and make any further use of the transcripts pending advice from your own legal sources. Click here to read the edited transcript.

Statehood is back on the Territory agenda - or is it? Seems the general indifference of some is matched by the predictable arguments of others being mounted against Statehood. For example Canberra's alleged “concern” about the absence of NT speed limits, the conflict between traditional and western laws, the ever controversial uranium industry and a whole raft of other 'red herrings' loom large in the debate. In the oration delivered by the former Administrator and Under Treasurer of the Territory Dr. Neil Conn AO these wide ranging issues are discussede in full. There is no doubt in Dr. Conns mind that the NT was ready to become the seventh state of Australia back in 1999.. Click here to read Dr. Conn's oration.

First there is the continuing and unrelenting attempt to re write history which comes through when interviewing more radical spokesmen from the Muslim community both in Australia and abroad. The pitch is that if America and its allies had not invaded Afghanistan and Iraq the bombings wouldn’t be happening. It’s a similar theme picked up by the broad coalition of the ‘left’ world wide. It is factually incorrect as Michael Costello writes below.
