What does the Persian Gulf country of Dubai and the Melbourne Cup have in common? Quite a lot, as it turns out. Last Tuesday, tens of millions of television viewers around the globe saw Emirates, the national airline of Dubai, plastered all over Flemington before, during and after the big race. Whatever Emirates paid in sponsorship fees for the Melbourne Cup, it got its money back at long odds. Now let’s talk about that other Australian-based, international player, Qantas.
